Ms. Williams began working to help her community in 1988 when she formed the first GLBT Texas drug addiction recovery group. She went on to become a founding member and President of Community Awareness for Transgender Support and established and managed the first transgender homeless shelter in our nation's history. Ms. Williams advocated for and helped to create Houston's first low-cost medical clinic for transgenders in 1991 at the Montrose Clinic and went on to create and manage our community's first transgender-specific HIV risk-reduction program in 2004. Currently, she administers several transgender resource and education sites such as transhouston.com, tgdor.org and htuc.org and serves on the City of Houston's Community Planning Group. She is the parent of a teenage boy.
