Business Description

The Museum at Lassen's Resort, located in Cedar Lake, Indiana, is a must-visit for history buffs who want to experience the glamour and charm of the 1920s. This award-winning museum takes you on a journey through the early 20th century, showcasing the rich history of Cedar Lake and how it enriched the region and touched lives around the world.

The museum is housed in a unique building that was formerly situated on the western shores of Cedar Lake and housed ice harvesters for the Armour Bros. and Company meatpacking company of Chicago. In 1919, Chris Lassen, owner of a thriving dance pavilion and restaurant, purchased the building and moved it over the frozen lake to its present site on the east shore. He added the lakeside wing and the Lassen Resort hotel was formed. The building was in use until shortly after World War II. After a stint as the Lake Region Christian Assembly (LRCA) camp, the Town of Cedar Lake purchased the nearly 20-acre property. The Cedar Lake Historical Association was incorporated to preserve the hotel structure and operate it as a museum. In 1981, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The museum's imaginative exhibits tell The Story of Cedar Lake, from its glacial formation to present day. Ride the award-winning Dewey Line boats and discover resort-era history as you rock the afternoon away while lounging on the wrap-around porch and enjoying the magnificent lake view. Visitors can also take home a piece of Cedar Lake history with souvenirs available in the general store.

What's unique about The Museum at Lassen's Resort is that it's operated solely by volunteers. The Cedar Lake Historical Association has a Board of Governors who adhere to the highest standards of nonprofit administration. A dedicated group of volunteer tour guides ensures that museum visitors feel welcomed while exploring the history of Cedar Lake, Indiana.

If you're looking for a memorable and educational experience, The Museum at Lassen's Resort is a hidden gem that's definitely worth the visit.
