Business Description

The Brookfield Theater for the Arts, located in Brookfield, CT, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that is completely run by volunteers. For over 60 years, this theater has been providing quality community theater and educational opportunities to the Brookfield area. With a regular season consisting of five shows chosen to provide a meaningful and entertaining experience that will appeal to a wide ranging audience, The Brookfield Theater for the Arts is a must-visit destination for theater enthusiasts.

In addition to its regular season of productions, The Brookfield Theater for the Arts also offers a variety of workshops and special events throughout the year, including its annual Paddys Celebration to thank its sponsors and volunteers. The theater also boasts an art gallery and gathering space, which was renovated in 2017 to provide even more space for art offerings.

The Country Players of Brookfield founded the theater in 1957, performing plays in church halls and schools. It soon became clear that this band of players needed a home of its own. After refurbishing the Curtis school gym, the building became the permanent home for the Brookfield community theater. The organization eventually grew to include a wide range of cultural offerings, and in 2003, changed its name to "The Brookfield Theatre for the Arts." Each president improved the physical space, developing a changing room for actors, a costume room for dry storage of costumes and props, and a backstage area for actors to prepare.

The theater's president, Lou Okell, has had a long relationship with The Brookfield Theater for the Arts, providing low-cost and donated graphics and printing since 1988. Volunteer credits at Brookfield Theatre include producing, tech and backstage work. Okell founded her own company, Arkettype Graphics and Printing in 1988 with partner and husband, Andrew Okell, where she has worked continuously providing design and marketing solutions to small and medium-sized companies.

The Brookfield Theater for the Arts has received glowing reviews from its patrons, who appreciate the quality of the productions, the dedication of the volunteers, and the sense of community that the theater provides. If you're looking for a cultural experience that you won't forget, be sure to check out The Brookfield Theater for the Arts during your next visit to Brookfield, CT.
