Stonegate Pharmacy has two owners Rene Garza and Andy Ruiz. Rene grew up in his dad's pharmacy in Laredo, Texas where he was tricked into counting M&Ms on pharmacist trays thinking they were pills. Little did he know that some years later, faced with a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. To his disappointment, Rene often experienced a lack of empathy, compassion and genuine effort from other pharmacies. It was this disappointment that fueled his drive to pursue and achieve his Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Texas. Andy grew up in the small growing city of Corpus Christi, Texas. As a young boy, he struggled with reading and often found school-work to be boring. Science is where he really came alive. Even against all the adversity he faced, Andy achieved not only his Post-Doctoral Master's Degree but also was commissioned to help design and implement the first combined Master of Science in Pharmacy and Community Pharmacy Residency at the University of Texas.
