Business Description
Positive, open, and full of enthusiasm, Dr. Koning has a zest for adventure and an easy-going manner that is a joy to his patients. Growing up on a small dairy farm in Idaho and fighting wildfires during the summers to put himself through school, he obtained his undergrad degree at Dordt College in Iowa. In 2004 he graduated from Pacific University College of Optometry with distinction, and went on to complete a medically-based residency at the VA Hospital and Moran Eye Center in Salt Lake City, UT. He was honored in 2009 to be named Washington's Young Optometrist of the Year.
Dr. Koning has participated in humanitarian eye care trips to Guatemala and El Salvador, and is now on the steering committee for the free eye clininic at Bellingham's Lighthouse Mission. He and his wife, Melissa, and children Abigail, Brenna, and John, enjoy hiking, camping, Bible studies, running, biking, and nature photography. They are happy to call Bellingham home.
