Business Description

Melanie is the daughter of Sabrina Hayes, owner of Sabrina's Dance Academy in Waverly from 1981-2004. She grew up dancing from the age of 2 and was an assistant teacher and choreographer at Sabrina's by age 15. She also studied ballet, pointe, and jazz at Attitudes by Amy in Waterloo throughout high school. She was captain and choreographer of the Denver High School dance team, the Star Steppers and attended Just For Kix danceteam camps every summer where she was selected to dance at the half time show of the Outback Bowl game in Tampa, FL. Every summer Melanie continued her dance education by attending classes in Chicago, IL at the Chicago National Association of Dance Masters convention. She also attended a summer Broadway dance camp in New York City.

Melanie took a break from dancing after high school while she studied fashion design at the Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago. She also attended both Hawkeye Community College and the University of Northern Iowa where she majored in
