After visiting Maine with my husband in 1970 (he spent every summer of his young years on Gotts Island, just off Bass Harbor) we spent as much time as we could on Gotts Island throughout the years. Finally, in 1983, we moved to Bass Harbor lock, stock, and barrel. By 1985, we bought the "Little Island" peninsula. Before we put in a better road, the peninsula became an island during very high tides, so had always been called "Little Island." It had a small boatyard and the house. We still live in the house in the off-season and on Gotts Island during the rental season. The small boatyard is now home to our daughter and son-in-law's wooden boat building business, Richard Stanley Custom Boats, as well as to our son's Island Cruise business. My husband cares for the boatyard overall, Little Island Marine. Boats, birds, the harbor: we love Maine.
