Located in Cantil, California, the Jawbone Canyon Store has a rich history that is as fascinating as it is unique. Originally established in the early 1960s by Pancho Barnes and her husband Mac Mc Kendry, the store was their second attempt at entrepreneurship after their Happy Bottom Ranch in Muroc mysteriously burned down. Pancho Barnes was a renowned aviatrix, successful entrepreneur, and good friend to many Hollywood film stars and daredevil pilots like Chuck Yeager. She and Mac moved to Jawbone Canyon in search of a fresh start, and their legacy continues to this day.

After Pancho moved on, her husband, Mac, continued running the store. He even had to bring gasoline from Bakersfield in 55-gallon drums in the back of his pickup truck to supply fuel for the pumps. The store has been a popular off-road hangout for many years, attracting visitors from all over the area. In 1999, the original store mysteriously burned to the ground, but Scott and Patty Spencer saw an opportunity to recreate the old store's atmosphere while adding some of their own ideas.

The Spencer family started with the store and deli, then added gas, propane, a covered beer garden, and a souvenir shop.
