My handyman training began as a child. My father was a handyman himself, working in construction doing many trade skill jobs. He worked from major projects of building homes to minor jobs of home repair and running various cables. From a young age, I would join my father and worked with him on such jobs as he would teach me.
As an adult, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. In 2003, I was deployed to Iraq where I received a Purple Heart for being wounded. Part of that injury resulted in me losing my left eye, hence the name and logo for iHandy. Following my time in the military, I worked as a deputy for the Ada County Sheriff's office for 5 years.
What I learned in the military and law enforcement were, what I believe, are the best attributes of any handyman. The skill of a handyman is not confined to knowing the various tools and how to use them. One must know how to see a problem and work through a solution, sometimes in creative ways to achieve the desired result.
