Business Description
Owner and General Manager, Kevan Coleman
Since his boyhood days growing up in a Chesapeake Bay waterman's family on Maryland's Eastern Shore, Kevan has been involved with boats. His first boatyard employment came at age fourteen, when he began summer and after-school work at Edwards Marina, on the Chester River. This experience expanded his interest in boating and sailing and provided a solid, hands-on foundation in basic boat care, maintenance, and on-the-water handling.
Kevan gained further professional boating experience in Annapolis, Maryland, especially in rigging, sail racing, general yard operations and customer service.
An invitation from the Maine Maritime Museum to apprentice in boat building brought Kevan to Maine in 1981 and provided training in design, construction, and restoration. This was followed by several years of work in boatyards and marinas in Mid-Coast, Maine, before founding Yacht Tender.
