I am 22 years old. I grew up in Los Angeles and studied Economics and Film at the University of Colorado at Boulder for 2 years. During that time I interned as an apprentice at a local farm and was taught, one on one, everything from growing specific plants, start to finish, to dealing with nutrient deficiency and learning how to make organic growing formulas.
When coming back to Los Angeles I still had a big interested in agriculture, so I started a home, in-ground, vegetable garden in my backyard.
After being hit hard with the drought in California, it was hard to maintain the garden with the strict water regulations, so I had to figure another method using less water. With some research I stumbled upon aquaponics, which is a method of vertical farming, derived from hydroponics, that uses 90% less water than traditional agriculture and is completely sustainable when built.
Eventually I began to focus primarily in indoor vertical farming and started Vertical Farms LA in April 2018.
