Valley to Summit was founded by David, an executive director, wilderness guide, and Leave No Trace Master Educator. Born and raised in Philadelphia, David's passion for the outdoors was sparked when reading Henry David Thoreau's Walden during high school. After several backpacking trips, David immersed himself in wilderness during a three-month mountaineering and sea-kayaking expedition in Patagonia, Chile through the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). It was here where he learned the meaning of exploration, remote living, surviving in harsh weather conditions, communication, risk assessment, teamwork, and tolerance for adversity.
