Business Description
Susan & David Yurkovich bought this Water Street property in Brownsville in 2013. It opened in July 2014 as Twelve Oaks Restaurant and Tavern.
The upscale restaurant is named after a plantation in "Gone With the Wind," and reflects the couple's love of the South and of antiques.
The house at 815 Water St. is known as the former home of Thomas H. Thompson, son of Samuel Thompson, who owned and operated the Samuel Thompson Distillery.
The Yurkoviches have filled the 21 rooms of the former mansion, circa 1906, with curved-back love seats, tea sets, hat racks, candelabra, a gramophone, key-turn lamps and colored glassware.
Diners are encouraged to visit the different floors, from the Carpetbagger's Tavern on the bottom floor to the first floor's formal dining area to the second floor's Bonnie Blue Tea Room and the Magnolia private dining room.
They are booking private parties and banquets, and are looking for individuals interested in operating specialty shops on the second floor.
