Theatre of the Performing Arts of Shreveport has been in operation for 39 years, promoting positive representations of African American culture through theater, dance, music, visual arts, history, and literature. Theatre of the Performing Arts was the initiator of the African American History Month parade in downtown Shreveport in 1991 and founder of the Black Arts Festival in 1985, which is now the Let the Good Times Roll Festival.
For the past 39 years, Theatre of the Performing Arts has developed and presented cultural arts programs. Throughout the years, they have served over 16,000 youth through their Yazzy programs including the Yazzy Summer Morning Mix, Youth Celebrating Jazz Concert, Workshops, and recently The Saturday Development Academy. Theatre of the Performing Arts participants have had the opportunity to train in all areas of the arts and work with local and renowned artists such as: Michael Ward, Pamela Williams, Bobbi Humphrey, Stephanie Jordan, etc...
