Born into an Italian American family, Joyce studied in Siena and has lived in Italy. Ms Falcone has a BA in Art and Italian from University of Colorado. Since 1996 Falcone has traveled or lived in Italy every yesr since, averaging 2 months a year while either researching or on tour.
Her pursuit of "all things Italian" have taken her to every corner of the country. She has been to the depths of the cava grande di Cassibile in Sicily, to the top of Stromboli in the Aeolian Islands, and to visit a prehistoric paleolithic cave on Levanzo.
She has skied the slopes of Cortina on the Sella Ronda circuit, and has been fortunate enough to witness a master in the lost trade of carbon making in the woods of Monte Catria in Le Marche. Numerous times Falcone has hiked past Tuscan hilltop villages and on the Cinque Terre trails, toured the most famous wineries, and has been fortunate to have had two vatican audiences.
