Business Description

Kathleen holds a B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry and a teaching credential from UC Irvine, taught physics and physical science at Redondo Union High School, and worked for the Ballona Wetlands Land Trust and Santa Monica Baykeeper.

In 2007, she founded TeachingGreen, a nonprofit organization. Through it, she has worked to educate adults and children to help them live a "greener" lifestyle. She had been visiting classrooms to teach kids about the three R's for many years, but through experiences with her own daughter, she realized that a better way to teach kids to be "green" is to get them into nature where they can learn to love it. She realized that kids need to spend more time in nature, and that the best way to teach them to protect the environment is to allow them to experience it firsthand.

Kathleen created South Bay Eco Kids in 2017, because through hands-on activities and teachable moments we can do far more for kids (and nature) at camp than we could ever do in a classroom.
