Smyth Jewelers - Timonium has had great success with gold buying at their three showrooms, as well as their five remote locations in malls. The company was founded in 1914 by Albert S. Smyth, and his simple premise has always been, "Always offer the best possible product, backed by the best possible service, and you'll have a customer for life." The business started as a wholesale distributor to retail jewelers, mainly in the Baltimore area and south in 1914. In 1945, the business operated on the second floor of Hopkins Place, and in 1960, it moved to 317 N. Howard St as a discount retailer with some wholesale. Unfortunately, a fire destroyed the Smyth building in 1970, but the grandsons of Albert S. Smyth, Chip, Tom, Bobby and Buzz were working for the company. In 1971, the business opened in Timonium at 29 Greenmeadow Dr, becoming a catalog store that took only cash or checks and had no returns. About 30 people worked there at that time.

In 1986, Chip Smyth left the business and started his own in Ellicott City. Throughout the 90s, Smyth Jewelers - Timonium had building additions, customer service improvements, quality in inventory increases, and staff increases. In 1999, the showroom expansion was done, and in 2004, the company moved into its new store at 2020 York Rd. Later, in 2008, the company opened its second store at Annapolis Towne Centre, and in 2009, it took over Chip Smyth Jewelers in Ellicott City as Smyth Jewelers.
