The history of Queens of Cobbler is inspiring. It all started with the peach cobbler that was originally sold at a well-known barbecue and soul food restaurant in Phoenix, AZ, established in 2001. Verdie and her ex-husband owned a handful of these restaurants, and even a location in Sky Harbor Int'l Airport. The cobblers were a hit and sold out each day. In 2019, while Verdie was undergoing chemotherapy to fight breast cancer, she had the idea to bring the cobblers back! She and her son began doing deliveries in the city on the weekends. After he got laid off from work in August of 2020, he decided to take the business full time. He began doing four farmers' markets a week in November of 2020, and now in December of 2021, they were able to open their doors and welcome the community. Vicki, Verdie's twin, was also diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020, one calendar day after Verdie. My grandmother, the Queen's mom, is also a breast cancer survivor. This is truly a Black family-owned business inspiring us all to fight against all obstacles.
