Luke Evans has 25 years of gymnastics experience; 11 years as an athlete and 14 years as a head coach. As an athlete, Luke competed on a National Level for 6 years, achieving 12th place (2 places away from the Jr. National Team). Luke spent extensive hours (including Christmas and Thanksgiving breaks) as an athlete at the Olympic Training Center with his father and other national staff members. Luke was on the BYU Men's Gymnastics Team 1992-1993. In 1993, he developed disc herniations in his back, ending his future to continue as a gymnast, but opening greater opportunities for his future as a coach.
Luke comes from a very prestigious coaching line. Those coaches included Bill Evans (his father), Mark Williams and Mako Sakamoto. Working with these coaches as an athlete gave him a wealth of knowledge to pull from, as these coaches combined have had several National, NCAA and Olympic Champions.
