Old Sacramento Waterfront is a 28-acre National Historic Landmark District and State Historic Park located in Sacramento, California. This bustling district is alive with shopping, dining, entertainment, historical attractions, and world-renowned museums set within the time of the California Gold Rush and the Transcontinental Railroad.
John Sutter, the founder of Sutter's Mill, arrived on the shore of the American River near its confluence with the Sacramento River, and with the promise of a Mexican land grant, Sutter and his landing party established Sutter's Fort. As the settlement grew and became permanent, it attracted other businessmen looking for opportunities. Sutter and the people he attracted created a commercial center in the area, which rapidly grew into a trading center for miners outfitting themselves for the gold fields.
Today, the Old Sacramento Business Association (OSBA) works in partnership with the City of Sacramento, the State of California, property owners, merchants, and other stakeholders in their common goal of strengthening the commercial vitality of the Old Sacramento Historic District. With over 100 retail members, almost all locally-owned small businesses, OSBA works cooperatively with public and private-sector partners to keep the city's oldest shopping and entertainment district a fun destination for local residents and travelers alike.
