Business Description

Jennifer started her GIS business in 2009, initially working as a consultant under the name Manastash Mapping, but shifting over time to focus on recreation mapping and data under the name Northwest Portal (formerly Washington Hometown). Her goals are to help communities and organizations tell their stories through maps, help people discover their next adventure and support rural communities who rely on recreation and tourism dollars. She has an MS in Resource Management from Central Washington University where she occasionally teaches GIS. In her previous life, she spent 16 years with the Defense Department finding creative ways to use available data to answer national intelligence needs. For Northwest Portal she draws on her skills in GIS, data mining, and resource management to pull recreation data from many sources into a single dataset that she uses for web maps, print maps and mobile apps and that is also available as a data subscription.
