Before that, the space was owned and operated by Cathy Joyce and was called Buzz, a charming barbershop that thrived in Crested Butte for at least 15 years. A fun fact about the salon is that the vintage barber chair in the corner of the salon belongs to Barber Cathy Joyce, who purchased the chair from retired cosmetologist Henrietta Raines. Henrietta owned the salon As You Like It Hairstyling, located on Elk Avenue for 25 years that closed in '97, and is the mother of Leta Maunz.

The stylists at New Moon Salon are always up-to-date on the latest hair trends and techniques, and continually educate themselves to provide clients with the best possible service. Mamie Oleta Maunz, the owner of the salon, attended the Aveda Color Theory classes in Grand Junction and Goldwell Color Education classes in Denver, as well as bridal hairstyling and product education provided by Kevin.Murphy Professional Hairstyling education, here in Crested Butte.
