Carl was not one of the California divers celebrated at the year 2000 "Fathers of Freediving" event in Los Angeles as he is really the generation behind our California diving fathers. But now approaching 78 years old, Carl has left a big mark on our sport. In the 1960's Carl joined Central California Council of Divers and quickly moved up the ranks of tournament divers. His early teammates were the likes of Terry Maas and Don Barthmann, both legends of California diving. While he dove California primarily, he always loved Baja Mexico and the Sea of Cortez. Carl shot a lot of 100 lb. Grouper in those days and many of you are familar with the famous picture in the introduction section of Terry Maas's "Bluewater Hunting" book that shows Al Schneppershoff, Terry Maas and Carl Krupansky with some monster grouper
