Located in Newburgh, NY, Motorcyclepedia is a true motorcycle enthusiast's paradise. This expansive museum boasts over 500 motorcycles from a range of eras and manufacturers, including Harley-Davidson, Indian, and even bikes from American manufacturers prior to World War I. Visitors can view an Indian motorcycle from every year of production and see a recreation of the Captain America chopper from the iconic film, Easy Rider.
In addition to motorcycles, the museum features photographs, posters, memorabilia, and machinery related to the bikes. Visitors can explore several galleries, including Chopper City, The Circa Timeline, Fast from the Past, Harley-Davidsons, and the American Motorcycle Foundation's Gallery. The museum also has three full-sized Walls of Death, one of which is used for seasonal performances.
The museum's history dates back to 1947 when Gerald A. Doering purchased his first motorcycle, a 1929 Indian Scout. Doering continued to collect Indian motorcycles, eventually acquiring one from every year of their manufacture, except for the first year. In 1971, Doering and his son Ted started a wholesale motorcycle parts business in New Windsor, NY. The success of their business allowed them to expand their motorcycle collection, and in 2010, Ted began putting together the museum that now sits in the old 85,000 sq. ft. Miron Lumber building.
