Media Arts Center San Diego is a non-profit organization located in the heart of San Diego, California that is dedicated to promoting access to film and video as tools for community self-expression and social change. MACSD is the producer of the annual San Diego Latino Film Festival, which has been a staple in the community since 1993. In addition to the film festival, the center provides educational programs and services for all ages and cultures. Programs include the award-winning Teen Producers Project, Youth Media & Tech Camps, Digital Media Workshops, and the New Media DIY Lab.
The center's founder and Executive Director, Ethan Van Thillo, has been working in the media arts field since 1989, programming Latino film festivals for various organizations. In 1995, he transformed the Cine Estudiantil into the internationally known and respected San Diego Latino Film Festival. In 1999, he established Media Arts Center San Diego, non-profit organization. As Executive Director of MACSD, Mr. van Thillo founded such innovative programs and initiatives as the Digital Story Station, Cinema en tu Idioma, Cine Club! and the Teen Producers Project.
