Link Unlimited is a community service/non-profit organization located in the bustling city of Chicago, IL 60616. Established in 1966, this organization has been providing high school students with educational college preparatory opportunities for economically disadvantaged African American youth. The founders of Link Unlimited were inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s message that children should be judged by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. Since its inception, Link Unlimited has been one of the most experienced and highest performing African American high school mentoring and scholarship programs in Chicago.
The mission of Link Unlimited is to foster academic success, personal development, and interracial understanding and harmony through education, college readiness and success, and personal development programs. The organization integrates mentoring relationships, service initiatives, and spiritual principles to help prepare scholars for a lifetime of professional success and personal fulfillment. Their programming is tailored to combat the negative influences that are prevalent in economically disadvantaged areas and provide students with the resources they need to shape their lives for the better.
The driving force behind Link Unlimited is the President and CEO, Dr. Blasingame-Buford, who earned an Ed.D in Adult and Continuing Education from National-Louis University, an MS in Nonprofit Management from Spertus College, and her BA from Chicago State University. Dr. Blasingame-Buford currently serves on the Advisory Board for the University of Chicago's Civic Leadership Academy and on the Executive Committee for the City of Chicago's Community Development Advisory Council (mayoral appointment). She is also an Illinois Ambassador Emeritus for the National Afterschool Alliance and has received numerous awards and commendations, including selection as an Inaugural Class Fellow of the IMPACT Leadership Development Program.
Link Unlimited has successfully supported more than 2,000 scholars since its inception, providing economically disadvantaged African American high school students with the resources they need to achieve academic success and become lifelong community leaders.
