Captain Steve Turner, a US Coast Guard licensed skipper with a 100-ton masters license, is at the helm of Kohala Sail & Sea. He is a long-time Hawaii resident with an impeccable 24-year career and an award-winning whale-watch captain during his tenure in Lahaina, Maui. In addition to his extensive experience, he has sailed across the Pacific Ocean between Hawaii and North America numerous times, explored the remote coastlines of Mexico and Canada under sail, and sailed around all of the main Hawaiian Islands, including Ni'ihau.

Kohala Sail & Sea is a family-owned and operated business, and Captain Steve's passion for sailing shines through in every trip. That year, the state of Hawaii was in the process of building a new harbor in Kawaihae, and Steve added his name to the slip list hoping to sail there and maybe even make a couple of dollars. Twenty years later, the new harbor was opened, and Kohala Sail & Sea was launched – the culmination of Captain Steve's dream to create his own sailing charter business from this unique location and share this wonderful part of the Pacific Ocean with his guests.
