Foundry Vineyards began in 1998 as somewhat of a hobby when Mark Anderson planted Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes on his residential property. Initially, most of the grapes were sourced out to other Walla Walla wineries, but in 2003 he decided to hold back some of the fruit to create a small amount of wine that would commemorate the work of his clients at the Walla Walla Foundry. The inaugural vintage, a blend of Cabernet and Merlot grapes from their estate, Stonemarker Vineyard, featured label artwork by renowned artist Jim Dine. This wine was the basis for their flagship Artisan Blend.

Jay Anderson, the second generation of Andersons to run Foundry Vineyards, is keeping the family business's lifelong commitment to quality, limited production wines. Jay is an intelligent and innovative winemaker, and he has recently converted the estate vineyard, so it is now farmed organically and has started producing more natural wines. In May 2019, he released a whole new SPARKLING wine line called "Pet Project."
